The ‘26-’27 Flu and COVID vaccines have been updated to protect against current strains:

COVID-19

The ’26-’27 COVID Vaccines protect against the XFG strain of SARS-CoV2, which has broadest circulation currently. Go to this site to see current data showing variant proportions.

This is a dendrogram or “family tree” of the COVID-19 virus, with circles showing which strains were targeted for each year’s vaccines.

Influenza

In ‘26-’27, trivalent formulations are offered which means they cover 3 strains of flu virus.

Previous years have covered 4 strains, but this year the B/Yamagata lineage was removed because it disappeared during the COVID pandemic.

The H3N2 component was updated to neutralize the subclade K variant that drove type A cases last season.

Which vaccines are recommended for me and how?

Typically, the federal Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) sets vaccine recommendations.

Previously meeting every 3 months, ACIP committee has not met since December 2025.

This year, major medical associations have come together to announce unified recommendations for the ‘26-’27 respiratory virus season. Go to spreadthefacts.org to read more. CDC has also released recommendations via interim clinical considerations.
